Every diamond is the same size
A diamond is a fixed physical size — it does not shrink to fit a smaller canvas. So a larger canvas does not use bigger diamonds; it uses more of them. More diamonds mean more squares, and more squares mean finer gradations of colour and shape.
Where it shows most
Detail matters most in faces. Eyes, lips and the subtle transitions of skin need enough diamonds to resolve; at small sizes there simply are not enough, and features flatten. The same is true of complex scenes.
A practical rule
