A Complete Guide to Buying a Diamond Painting Kit
A simple, honest guide to choosing the right diamond painting kit the first time. What to look for, how to choose size and diamonds, and how to begin well.
What is diamond painting?
Diamond painting is a calm craft where you place small, faceted resin diamonds on an adhesive canvas, following printed symbols. It is a little like painting by numbers, but the result shimmers. Read more in what is diamond painting.
What makes a good kit
- A clearly printed canvas, with symbols that are easy to read even in small details.
- A strong, even adhesive that holds every diamond.
- Diamonds sorted by colour code, with a small surplus of each.
- A complete set of tools, so you can begin straight away.
Round or square diamonds?
Round diamonds are quicker to place and give a softer finish, which many beginners enjoy. Square diamonds sit edge to edge for a crisper, fuller look that suits larger and more detailed designs. See round or square diamonds.
Which size to choose
- Around 30 × 40 cm. A calm first project and simple designs.
- Around 40 × 50 cm. The comfortable middle, with good detail.
- 60 × 80 cm and larger. Portraits, detailed scenes and pieces that fill a wall.
Our size guide explains it in detail.
Which finish to choose
Kits come as rolled canvas, stretched canvas, a canvas and frame kit, or a rigid board. Our format guide compares them.
A checklist before you buy
- Is the canvas clearly printed?
- Are the diamonds sorted and labelled by colour?
- Are extra diamonds included?
- Is delivery tracked, and how long does it take?

Every NordikAtelier kit meets all five, with free tracked delivery across the UK and Europe and 14 day returns on unopened kits.
How to begin
- Lay the canvas flat and check your colours and tools.
- Sort the diamonds into small labelled containers.
- Peel back a small section of film and work in small areas.
- Take your time, put on music and enjoy the rhythm.
- Press the finished piece flat, then frame it.
Our guide for beginners walks through each step.
